Close Victory opens Giants the EFL-Semis
On a chilly, windy, and rainy afternoon the GIANTS beat the DRAGONS 34:31 on a last second field goal.
The GIANTS started very well: Just 4 minutes in the first quarter, RB Michael Andrews scored on a 4 yard run; K Christoph Kipperer scored the PAT. With 03:39 left in the first period QB Chris Gunn connected with WR Christian Kranz for a 49 yard touchdown pass; K Christoph Kipperer converted the PAT, giving the GIANTS an early 14:00 lead. After the GIANTS recovered the following kickoff, the GINATS struck again: Just 34 seconds later RB Michael Andrew ran again into the endzone, this time from 2 yards out; after the PAT by K Christoph Kipperer the GIANTS had an 21:00 lead.
A little over four minutes in the second quarter the DRAGONS scored on a 20 yards pass from QB Eric David Marty to Thomas Haider; the PAT by K Sebastian Daum was blocked. Just one minute later RB Michael Andrew scored his third touchdown, bullying his way in from 35 yards out. K Christoph Kipperer´s PAT advanced the lead to 28:06. With 04:41 left in the first half QB Eric David Marty first hit WR Pasha Ailadab for a 12 yards touchdown and then ran in the 2-points-conversion. 61 seconds left in the first half, GIANTS K Christoph Kipperer made a 22 yards fieldgoal, to provide the half time score of 31: 14.
After the explosive first half both defences took control: Thus a 25 yards field goal by DRAGONS K Sebastian Daum was the only score, cutting the lead to 31:17. Just 52 seconds in the last quarter QB Eric David Marty found WR Jason Philip Horton for a 30 yards touchdown; after the PAT by K Sebastian Daum the score was 31:24. With 07:17 left in the game the DRAGONS scored again, QB Eric David Marty hit WR Thomas Haider for a 15 yards touchdown; the following PAT by K Sebastian Daum tied the game at 31:31. After the GIANTS turned the ball over on downs, the DRAGONS offense drove again; with 110 seconds left in the game SS Christian Stopper intercepted the ball on the GIANTS 27 yards line. This time the GIANTS offense moved the ball all the way to the DRAGONS 14 yards line. With no time left on the clock K Christoph Kipperer hit a 31 yards field goal, winning the game for the GIANTS.
“It was a very tough game; we played very well at the beginning and at the very end” said GIANTS Head Coach Rick Rhoades; “both teams played on the same level”. Man of the game was GIANTS K Christoph Kipperer with the winning kick as time expired.
For the third time in a row the GIANTS advanced to the semifinals of the EUROBOWL; they´ll face the winner of the FLASH DE LA COURNEUVE vs. RAIFFEISEN VIENNA VIKINGS game in three weeks.
