![]() News06.06.2010 Calanda Broncos Calanda Broncos beat Parma and qualify for the Efaf Cup title gameWhat a game in Chur! Saturday Night Game in the middle of the Swiss alps, wonderful weather, a full stadium and two highly competitive teams to play for a spot in the Efaf Cup title game: At the end, the current Swiss champion Calanda Broncos beat the Italian Div. I leader Parma Panthers after a exciting game 40:21 (7:7, 0:7, 13:0, 20:6). The Broncos win over Parma was impressive, especially because the Grisons had to play without injured starting Quarterback Marko Glavic. His brother Sasha took over the job and willed his team to a comeback win in the second half. Sasha Glavic opened the score with a 13-yard run, but afterwards, Parma slowly took over. Although the Broncos managed to keep former NFL tight end Mike Pinkard in check, Quarterback Joe Craddock and his receiver Craig McIntyre turned the score around before halftime, as the Parma Panthers seemed to get in control of the game. But the second half wrote another, unexpected story: The Broncos came out storming, stopped the Panthers immediately and tied the game with Sasha Glavics second touchdown run. After a Matt Hammer Interception, Glavic scored his third touchdown for a 20:14 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. On the next possession the Broncos defense held in the redzone, a field goal try of Parma was short. The team of Headcoach Rick Taylor, former athletic director of the university of Northwestern, didnt let up and followed with a perfect drive, culminated in a 2-Yard-Touchdown-Run of Greg Jones. After Parma came back within a score again (through a nice Craddock-McIntyre connection), it was Jones again who responded with a nice10-Yard-Run and another 2-touchdown-lead. As Parma furiously tried to come back, Tissi Robinson set the final tone in front of an enthusiastic crowd at stadium Ringstrasse with a Broncos record 100-yard-Interception Return Touchdown. The Calanda Broncos, until 2008 known as Landquart Broncos, are the first Swiss team ever to qualify for the Efaf-Cup-Final. The Broncos, who reside in Chur - a small Swiss town 35'000 abitants at the boarder of the famous winter sports region Graubuenden (with towns like Davos or St. Moritz), played their 7th game in top European competition on Saturday. After four losses (Eurobowl 2004 and Efaf Cup 2009) the Broncos have now beaten three teams in this years competition and will play the Swedish runner up Carlstad Crusaders for the title on the weekend of the 10th/11th or 17th/18th July
